2010 Award Recipients

OTTAWA June 3, 2010: The School of Dance today announced the names and home communities of its 2010 Award Recipients. Each year, for the past 31 years, The School of Dance has been privileged to provide scholarships and bursaries to young people in the community through the dedicated hard-work of its Directors, individual and corporate donors and grants and gifts received from Canadian Foundations.  The School of Dance 2010 Award Recipients are:

Martin Bergeron (Ward 13 - Rideau-Rockcliffe, represented by Jacques Legendre)
Anders Love-Tedjoutomo (Ward 17 - Capital, represented by Clive Doucet)
Zoe Pritchard (Ward 12 - Rideau-Vanier, represented by Georges Bédard)

Provided by the City of Ottawa to The School of Dance for administration, the Rich Little Endowment Fund for the Performing Arts Scholarships have been awarded to:

Christine Dubois (Ward 12 - Rideau-Vanier, represented by Georges Bédard)
Danielle Ann Duschene (Ward 13 - Rideau Rockcliffe, represented by Jacques Legendre)

Jon Kubelka (Ward 22 - Gloucester-South Nepean, represented by Steve Desroches) is the 2010 recipient of the Barbara Hoglund Scholarship. The annual award is presented during The School’s Stages performances by Henry and Irene Hoglund in honour of their daughter, Barbara Hoglund, who died tragically in a car accident.

The 2010 Norman McLaren Award was awarded to A.J. Ayson (Ward 17 – Capital, represented by Clive Doucet).  
The award honours Norman McLaren’s commitment to young artists and acknowledges his legacy through his 1952 OSCAR award-winning short “Neighbours” produced by the National Film Board of Canada and filmed in Rockcliffe Park near The School of Dance 200 Crichton Street home.

The 2010 Guy Glover Awards were awarded to Aidan and Graeme Thies-Thompson (Ward 2 - Innes, represented by Rainer Bloess). The award honours Guy Glover’s commitment to the arts in Canada, in particular dance, and his early work in the establishment of the Canada Council for the Arts.

The 2010 Diana Kirkwood Award was awarded to Yasmine Alli-Smith (Ward 1 - Orleans, represented by Bob Monette).  The award honours Diana Kirkwood’s commitment to the dance and arts community of Ottawa and her 31 year support of The School of Dance.

The 2010 Stuart Conger Centre for Learning Award was awarded to Liam Reid (Ward 11 – Beacon Hill-Cyrville, represented by Michel Bellemare). The award honours Stuart Conger’s commitment to life-learning opportunities for young people and his dedication to the arts in Ottawa.

The 2010 Ottawa Citizen Award was awarded to Colin Jones (Ward 5 - West Carleton-March, represented by Eli El-Chantiry). The award honours the support provided by the Ottawa Citizen to young artists in the community.

The 2010 Spirit of Dance Award, in honour of Celia Franca, founder of the National Ballet of Canada and co-founder of the National Ballet School and co-artistic director of The School of Dance from 1979 until her death in 2007, was awarded to Justine Ring of South Farmington, Nova Scotia. In 2009, Justine moved to Ward 13 - Rideau-Rockcliffe, represented by Jacques Legendre, to study at The School of Dance.
