The School of Dance ISO 200 Events

ISO 200 presentations are designed by The School of Dance to educate and entertain. An ISO event is an opportunity to see through the camera lens of the artist's inner eye, to experience just what the artist sees and wants us to see. Interested members of the public are invited to attend the ISO 200 rehearsals that take place in the studio throughout the season.

Please contact The School for the exact times.

Open Rehearsal Showing of Solos

October 25, 2011 1:00pm

Celia Franca Studio at The School

Solos will showcase new dance works created by the third year students of the Contemporary Dance Programme. This season, dancers Danielle Duchesne, Caitlin Kenney, Katherine Ng and Jocelyn Todd will premiere their self-choreographed solos; an important step in their lives as emerging dance artists.

"During the creation of a solo, deeper self-awareness is achieved through the exploration of introspection, sensitivity, control and communication," explains Sylvie Desrosiers, Director of Contemporary Dance Studies at The School. "The personality and individuality of each dancer/creator is revealed through their creation. An imprint of each artist is found in the physicality of each work."

The program will also include two collective creations by the first and second year students of The School's Contemporary Dance Programme, produced under the guidance of Cathy Kyle Fenton, an Ottawa choreographer, and Sylvie Desrosiers. The audience can look forward to a multi-layered, surprising and dynamic evening of dance.

Solos will be presented at ODD, Studio A (Arts Court) on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 7:30pm and Saturday, October 29, 2011 at 2:30pm & 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 or $15 for students/seniors and are available by calling 613-238-7838 .

Open Rehearsal Showing of a New Work created for The School of Dance by Louise Bédard

September 30, 2011 3:00pm

Celia Franca Studio at The School

With a career spanning over thirty years, Louise Bédard, both a dancer and a choreographer, has seen her singular work and artistic signature recognized by various awards and distinctions. She has danced for such outstanding dance creators as Jeanne Renaud, Jean-Pierre Perreault, Paul-André Fortier, Ginette Laurin, Daniel Léveillé and Sylvain Émard. As a choreographer herself, she has created more than thirty works, mostly for her own company, Louise Bédard Danse, but also for many other artists of all generations.

Through her work both as a dancer and a choreographer, she thrives in investigating the very essence of movement. The language of her choreography describes the complexity and fragility of the human condition with poetry, humour, and irony, and this gives rise to works that are intense, impressed with an inexhaustible drive for authenticity, and great expressive force.
